Thanks for posting your comps gang, I'm very pleased to see much improvement professionalismwise. My brand new wordification.

I would like you to take a look at all the comps, read all comments and make a comment to each person on our team, which may simply be an affirmation of another comment or a contrary opinion, however brief, please make a comment to all, mine is one opinion here. You need not post any images of the final work in progress, (unless you were asked to in my post) we will look at it next week in class, the final image, on a big, quality piece of paper or canvas, or a good print of a digital file. The image should be presented as done. 

I am happy to comment on a work in progress, if you feel you need some input, but posting updates all along the way is not a good idea, you are in charge of your image.

I'm off to another project today, and will need to postpone posting my comments to the Cover project till tonight, or tomorrow morning.

gregs world record sketch 11-11

Hey everyone. Here's my sketch for the world record assignment. It's the worlds longest chess game, something like 22 hours straight. Comment if you'd like and I'll try to do the same. Most Successful Chimpanzee on Wall Street

Came across the humorous "record" set by a chimpanzee named Raven who chose an internet stock portfolio by throwing darts at a list. She defied expectations and was hailed a financial whizz (not saying much for the human financial gurus), and at one point had a website monkeydex.com, detailing Wall Street's first index of publicly traded Internet and new-economy stocks selected by a chimpanzee (wtf?)

In this sketch we see a chimp holding a cigar in its hand and a "banana martini" with its foot. A butler is seen cradling a top hat full of bananas. I pictured right away a chimp emerging from darkness so to speak, lit from underneath by the cigar. Not too creepy but not perfectly settling either. Definitely need to correct some primate anatomy, but overall I'm pleased with how it's turning out.

Worlds highest ranking camel

Hello, here are my near finish sketches for the world record illustration. I scanned my pencil work and colored it in the computer, so i can still change anything that you may think needs it. There are two camel drawings, and I'd appreciate any input on which i should use, I also wouldn't mind any advice I could get on how I could make him look a little less like a certain evil camel mascot. -Peter McCullough

Hello This is my composition for an article about the worlds biggest oil rig. I have also placed it among some text to clarify the final look of the spot illustration. I enjoyed every ones comments and adjusted the issues accordingly. I have placed the oil rig upon a globe over the middle east. I chose to crop three sides of the illustration to make an easier fit for the text. I had fun making this image and I can feel it really being an authentic article. Thanks for looking.

hello everyone, I took the suggestions from the silent crit and referenced a bloodhound for wrinkles in the man's face. I'm actually alot happier with this approach, it leaves less work of trying to make different wrinkles look real. I did some simple monochromatic color studies as well, just ideas to go along with the sketch. thanks! Brandon

More Spot Illustration Sketches

Hey everyone,  I'm beginning to catch up with all my homework this week.  I'm posting some prelim sketches, I'm going between two ideas.  The first record is the Largest Tea Party, the idea is to have a table stacked with cups, saucers, teapots, sugar, spoons, crumbs, wrappers, etc.  

The second record is the Oldest Message in a Bottle.  The first sketch is of Shetland, UK (the sight of where the bottle was found 92 years 229 days later) and the bottle is jetting out from the ocean, kind of like an "X marks the spot" concept. I put in some crop marks, it is a tricky composition for an article. I'm wondering if it will be able to work.  

The next record is the Oldest Message in a Bottle.  Basically, the sketch is of a giant bottle (there should be a scroll inside, I might have forgotten to draw it in).  I'd like for the bottle to display the article title.  I'm thinking that the label on the bottle could be partly peeled away and the text could be written on that.  

the two little thumbnails are examples of page layouts.

Any suggestions on which record I should go with?  Also, what is the next step for the assignment??

World Record Spot Illustration

This is the place to post that revised sketch/comp for the world record piece before Tuesday morning. Make it very clear of course, but explore some media in your process of working out this image, and post a second color versions if you like. Don't post files that fill a big screen, think laptop size when posting, so folks can see your entire image in the blog without scrolling. (800px x 800px at 72 dpi should be maximum size for posting an RGB jpg.) 

This is professional correspondence, say hi, explain what your posting, and conclude with enthusiasm about the next step. Think of it as all of us working on the same team, the same project. Its Ok that it be fun, but not to informal, and you shouldn't try to lay it on too thick, if you know what I mean. Looking forward to viewing your comps on Tuesday. I think that part of your job as an illustrator is making this an enjoyable experience for yourself, turning this into your dream job.

I expect to need some help with the blogging techno stuff, if something isn't working let me know.
